Which weight of padel bat to choose?

  1. There is no adecuate weight for a padel bat, however there is an adecuate weight for each player, taking a series of factors and characteristics into account. A bad selection can cause injury.
  2. A light bat is more manageable whereas a heavier bat gives more power.
  3. It’s recomendad to play with the heaviest bat with which you feel comfortable, with the added advantage that a heavy bat absorbs the impacts and vibrations better.
  4. Generally and depending on the build of each person, the usual weight for a woman’s bat is between 340-370g and for a man’s bat between 360-390g.
  5. There are specific bats for women and children, In general these bats are a bit lighter and look a bit different. Smaller bats are available for little children.
  6. The grips/overgrips and protectors which we usually put on the bat can augment it’s weight up to 20g.
  7. Depending on the shape/balance of the bat the sensation of weight varies. This point will be analized in more detail in another article.
To sum up, it’s just as important to not choose a bat which is too light, as it is to not choose one which is too heavy. As our level improves, it’s logical that we will look for heavier bats to achieve more power, but careful! It’s very important to feel comfortable with the weight of the bat, and for this reason my advice is to try the bat out before buying it, if you can.
